Community Rail
In the light of climate change, rising fuel prices, and a greater awareness of the need to give attention to social wellbeing in society, more and more people within the greater Dunedin area (covering Mosgiel, Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Waitati and Palmerston) are expressing interest in a revival of a passenger rail service. This could draw on best practice from similar local community rail partnerships set up and operating in the UK and Germany.
In 2015 there is disscussion about using rail on snow days to enable safe and reliable travel for commuters and students.
If you are interested to be part of community rail, or know others who can contribute to this, please register your interest.
In particular we would like to know:
- - What do you think the community needs?
- - What can you offer the group?

Waitati Station
The old ROMAHAPA station- Looked like fantastic opportunity for Waitati to have a “real” Railway Station and a chance to save a piece of Railway History.
Alas, the idea, to restore and relocate the historic Romahapa Railway Station was not to be. Work on securing a servicable railway station for Waitati is in limbo at present (2014). Please contact us by email if rail is your passion at you are fired up by the idea of a servicable railway station for the hub Blueskin settlement of Waitati.
